Spidertracks Attains Type Approval in South Africa

Jan 22, 2019

Spidertracks is proud to announce the Spider 8’s Type Approval by the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA). Issued on 17 January 2019, the ICASA approval has been carried out as part of a wider South African Civil Aviation Authority (SACAA) Aircraft Model List Supplemental Type Certification (AML STC) process.

The AML STC will enable customers to seamlessly install Spiders and external Iridium antennas into a wide range of Commercial General Aviation aircraft.

In order to bring this development to our customers in Africa, Spidertracks chose to partner with Challenge Air, an SACAA Part 147-approved design organisation. "Challenge Air are well-respected and experienced throughout Africa and were the ideal choice for a partnership of this nature," said Simon Williams, Spidertracks' Business Development Manager. "We're excited at the prospect of being able to offer an STC solution for our African customer base, as it will eliminate both uncertainty and additional work, especially when installing external antenna solutions."

At this stage, we anticipate the STC package to be available for retail in the coming weeks, following final review and approval by SACAA.
