Spidertracks Customer Spotlight: Jim Henderson, Private Pilot in Africa
Private pilot Jim Henderson has been traversing the skies for more than two decades, most recently flying in his Cherokee Six over remote and uninhabited areas in Africa. A Spidertracks customer for nearly seven years, Jim uses our accurate, real-time tracking and reporting features to make sure his family and friends always know where he is when he’s up in the air and to give himself a peace-of-mind boost as he’s flying.

Tell us a bit about your organisation. What do you do? How long have you been in operation?
I work for a company that does agricultural investments in Africa. I own a Cherokee Six and fly in areas with little to no habitation, and I’ve been flying for more than 20 years.
How did you become aware of Spidertracks, and when did you begin using us? What was involved in your decision to become a Spidertracks customer?
A colleague of mine already used Spidertracks and advised me of the benefits. This was approximately six years ago, at a time when I was doing a lot of work in Mozambique and when a Barron aircraft, with a father and son on board, had just gone down.
They’d both been killed on impact and weren’t discovered for two weeks. I flew their same route regularly and decided I needed a tracking system for this reason, so I registered with Spidertracks and purchased the kit. It gives both myself and my family peace of mind.
What Spidertracks features and functionalities are the most important for you, and why?
For me, Spidertracks is mostly used by people following me on the ground (such as my family). The system tells them what time I take off and land, and they’re also able to track my progress for the entire flight — especially important when I’m flying in remote areas.
What would you say are the biggest strengths of the Spidertracks system?
The real-time tracking, the automated notifications, and the customer service (I’ve always found the Spidertracks team to be extremely helpful). But I know I’m not using the system to its full benefit!
